Dear readers,
I’m excited to share that I have another short story coming out today called ‘Mother’s Hearth’, which you can read (for free) here.
I was really pleased when I found out that ‘Mother’s Hearth’ had been accepted by Beneath Ceaseless Skies, the same place that published ‘God’s Breath’. Both stories are set in the Nordic-inspired world of the Northlands and both involve an encounter with a god of this fictional world. From the beginning, it felt like this magazine would be the right home for it.
‘Mother’s Hearth’ is a story about overcoming fear and the search for meaning. But also, on a more literal level, it’s about the struggles of bringing a child into the world — especially for the first time. It features a stout witch (who is more than she seems), magic that comes with a cost, and various musings on the challenges of building a life that feels worthwhile. It was written around the same time that my daughter was born. I hope that you enjoy it. 😊
